What is Slow Travel (And Why Should I Try It?)

Slow travel is traveling in the moment.

Palm trees on a sunny beach, clear blue sky, tranquil ocean. Text: "What is Slow Travel (And Why Should I Try It?)" SlowTravelCo.com.

Travel is supposed to renew and re-energize us, but the truth is, it often does the opposite. It becomes an exercise in accomplishment, in seeing as much as possible, eating as much as possible, moving as much as possible. And in doing all of that, sometimes we forget to live in the moment.

Slow travel, also known as “silent travel” or “quiet travel,”  is about traveling in the moment. It’s staying longer in one location, putting gaps in your itinerary, sleeping in as long as your body wants to. It’s lounging by the pool until the sun dips below the horizon, wandering the streets without a plan or even a map, and forgetting to check off your travel to-do list — because it doesn’t exist. Slow travel is relaxing on vacation, because vacations are meant for relaxing.

Slow travel isn’t: 6am wake-up calls, country counting, tourist traps, or wellness retreats (we promise we won’t make you take a wheatgrass shot).

So why should you try it?

Beach with rocky cliffs and turquoise water. Text reads "What is Slow Travel" and "And why should I try it?" Calm and inviting scene.

When you slow travel with us, you don’t need to stress over researching itineraries, restaurants, or museum hours. You don’t even need to stress over convincing your significant other to ask for the same PTO days as you. With our Slow Travel Retreats and Reading Retreats, you’ll have a ready-made community of women to keep you company, chef-prepared meals and drinks waiting for you, and once-daily, completely optional activities — so you can travel easy and breathe easy.
